Amazon Go Explained:-The Future of Shopping

Amazon Go is a chain of "no checkout" stores established by Online Shopping giant Amazon. You simply walk in, pick out what you want and walk out. Amazon is calling this a "Just Walk Out" shopping experience. So in this article let's understand the tech behind this high tech store.

What is Amazon Go?
Amazon describes this store as a no checkout store. That means whenever you shop at Amazon Go store you need not stand in a line waiting to check out. The store works with the Amazon Go Apps. So first you enter the store by scanning a QR code on the app, take the products you want and then you can leave without a physical checkout, instead, you have to check out using the mobile app for the items that you purchased. The whole concept could be understood using the video below.

How does Amazon Go Work?

It works by using the same types of technologies found in self-driving cars, such as computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning. This technology can detect when products are taken or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in your virtual cart.
When you leave the store with your goods, your Amazon account is charged and you are sent a receipt.
Amazon says that it uses a combination of computer vision & artificial intelligence. The computer vision aspect seems to indicate the use of cameras being used to track the store. They basically take photos when you enter the store and link it with your app using a QR code. Whenever you pick up an item in the store the camera using computer vision recognizes if you have the intention of buying it. Once you take the items it adds it to your cart in the app. Amazon makes use of "facial recognition" and user information, which may include images of the user, details about the user like height and weight, user biometrics, a username and password, even user purchase history. With the help of this, it will send you an electronic bill receipt for the items that you purchased at the store. You can pay for the items using your credit or debit cards using the Amazon Go app. Amazon plans to open these stores in many countries.
