Vivo Today Announced the new Apex 2019 in China which is a full glass unibody design phone which looks stunning and has "almost" no ports or holes in the smartphone. I say almost because it has a tiny slit for the microphone but apart from that, it is a complete unibody glass design. The phone is a concept phone and is unlikely to hit the markets in India. So in this article let's take a look at the uniqueness of this phone.
The phone comes with a super unibody curved design. To create this glass unibody with uneven thickness, it requires a tedious process involving both heat bending and CNC machining, which likely won't come cheap. Part of this glass also serves as a set of three pressure-sensitive capacitive buttons which are used to control volume on this smartphone it doesn't have a physical volume up & down key.
Another unique feature of the Vivo Apex 2019 is that it features a full-display fingerprint scanner so you can touch anywhere on the screen to unlock the phone with the help of in-display fingerprint sensor. Not only will this make unlocking more convenient, but it'll also let you unlock and toggle an app with just one tap so long as the app icon is made available on the unlock screen for you to press on.
The Vivo Apex 2019 relies on an OLED display to act as a loudspeaker with the help of a vibrating display technology that radiates sound through the vibration of the display frame. The earpiece is also embedded within the display that also works with vibration within the display frame.
As for USB connectivity, this will be substituted by a "MagPort" magnetic pogo pin connector to go towards the bottom side on the back. Most importantly there is e-sim instead of the physical sim slot for connectivity.
The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC with support for 5G and comes with 12GB of RAM & 512GB Storage. On the camera front, it has a 12MP + 13MP dual camera setup on the back. Funnily enough, there's no front camera here, which is ironic given how the original APEX's main selling point was its pop-up selfie camera. At least we know for sure that there's no way this new APEX will end up in the market as-is, despite its good looks.
Even though Vivo Apex 2019 is just a concept phone we can expect some of its features to be included in the commercial version of Vivo Nex 2(2019) which will make it's way to India later this year.
