What is a Smart Door Lock?
A smart lock is an electronic locking device that opens wirelessly with an authorized user’s authentication.
In a smart home, smart locks allow a homeowner to enter their home or provide others access without requiring a traditional key. Instead, the user uses their Smartphone to wirelessly verify and unlock the door. Smart locks are an extension of home automation into home security.  As a connected device, smart locks can be considered a part of the internet of things (IoT).

How does a Smart Door Lock Work?

smart lock is an electromechanical lock which is designed to perform locking and unlocking operations on a door when it receives such instructions from an authorized device using a wireless protocol and a cryptographic key to execute the authorization process.
So basically a Smart Door Lock Unlocks itself when the identity of an authorized user is identified. To identify a person it uses various authentication methods like Biometrics(like Fingerprint), Smartphone App based Verification, Pin, Security Token. Once the authorized user is verified using any of these methods it grants access to your home by mechanically opening the door bolt. Smart locks allow users to grant access to a third party by the means of a virtual key. This key can be sent to the recipient smartphone over standard messaging protocols such as e-mail or SMS. Once this key is received the recipient will be able to unlock the smart lock during the time specified previously by the sender. Smart locks are able to grant or deny access remotely via a mobile app. Certain smart locks include a built-in WiFi connection that allows for monitoring features such as access notifications or cameras to show the person requesting access. Some smart locks work with a smart doorbell to allow the user to see who and when someone is at a door. Smart locks may use Bluetooth SMART and SSL to communicate, encrypting communications using 128/256-bit AES.
