We always want our phones to be charged with great speeds as our mobile phone usage patterns are increasing day by day. Many phone companies use fast charging as the mechanism to charge our phone battery quickly. So in this article let's discuss this mechanism and take a look at the various approaches used by smartphone companies.
What is Fast Charging?
Basically, it is a mechanism to quickly charge our batteries. So in order to charge our smartphone batteries at great speeds what is done is more power is supplied to the smartphone and the smartphone accepts a large amount of power sent out by the charger with the help of a dedicated battery microcontroller. All the smartphones that support fast charging using a technique called hand-shake a mechanism where there a basic communication between the charger and the phone. For example,e if the phone supports fast charging it communicates with the help of microcontroller that it can accept more power .when such a signal is sent microcontroller checks if it can provide more power with the help of the charger if the charger supplies with more power the microcontroller accepts it and distributes it to the battery .So in fast charging,g it is necessary that both(Charger and the phone) support fast charging so that when the fast charger supplies in with more power the phone also should be able to handle and accept more power. While using fast charging it is also necessary that the USB cable attached to the charger should be high quality and should be able to handle that much amount of charge.
Now in order to increase the power supply what we do is that we create a charger that delivers more power using a optimal combination of Volts & ampere. So if you look at any normal charger which does not support fast charging you will find a power rating of 5V and 1 Ampere or 5V 2 Ampere. So basically here in a normal charger the amount of power we are supplying is 5V x 2 Amp =10 watt.
So in order to fast charge, we will have to create combinations that will deliver more power. So now let's take a look at the different combinations used by smartphone manufactures to enable quick charge.
Qualcomm Quick Charge or Samsung Adaptive Fast Charge
Qualcomm Quick charge is based on various quick charging standards that have different combinations. This technology is supported by various Qualcomm mobile processors. The standards are given below
Quick Charge 1.0 | 5 V | 2 A | 10 W | 2013 | Snapdragon 600 |
Quick Charge 2.0 | 5 V, 9 V, 12 V | 3 A, 2 A, or 1.67 A | 18 W (9 V * 2 A) | 2015 | Snapdragon 200, 208, 210, 212, 400, 410, 412, 415, 425, 610, 615, 616, 800, 801, 805, 808, 810
Referred to as "turbopower" by Motorola.

Oneplus Dash Charge or Oppo Super VOOC
Dash charge is a technology which is proprietary to Oneplus devices. The combination used here is 5V 4 Amp which delivers 20W of power. Dash charge can charge from 0% to 60% battery in just 30 minutes. This technology is in use from Oneplus 3 to the latest Oneplus 6T. While the Super VOOC uses the same combination it is found on oppo devices like Oppo Find X
Huawei Fast charging
Huawei introduced this technology with it Huawei Mate 20 Pro which is expected to hit the indian market soon. Here Huawei has used a 10V 4 Amp combination which delivers 40W of power. This technology is currently the fastest amongst all phones.
What is the most powerful USB-c charger?
ReplyDeleteGaN
HyperJuice GaN 100W USB-C Charger - Highly Recommended
100w usb c charger , it's also the most powerful we have tested - enough to full-speed power-up a large, top-end laptop plus other devices.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the article. You just made me clear my confusion. Recently, I purchased a wooden iphone case from a website and I was astonished to see they also make wooden fast phone chargers and other types of wooden gadget cases.
