Samsung to Launch Folding Phone in Early 2019

Samsung is one of the many tech companies who showed interest in foldable displays. Over the last couple of years, there are rumors that the company is going to launch the first foldable smartphone called Galaxy X. At the MWC 2018, the CEO of Samsung Mobile is said to have confirmed the development of the foldable smartphones. According to the Wall Street Journal, the company will reportedly unveil the foldable smartphone in early 2019.
It is currently in the development stage and is internally codenamed as Winner. The device will be coming with a foldable 7-inch foldable display. When the device is folded, the display bar will be one side and camera setup will be on the other side. During the Lenovo’s Tech World Summit in 2017, the company has showcased the foldable tablet and smartphone prototypes. However, there is no update on the development of those devices.
Unlike the many concepts we have seen over the internet, Samsung’s foldable device will not look like a clamshell phone. It will also not be like the dual displays connected by a hinge on ZTE Axon M smartphone. The foldable device is said to offer an all-screen display when its opened. Instead of selling it as a regular smartphone, the company might target a small niche of users with its first-ever foldable-display device. It will be using an OLED panel as its the only solution for making a foldable device.
Considering its the first-gen device using this new technology, the price of Samsung’s foldable device will be a lot higher than the current flagship devices. Talking about the performance, the company will either opt for the next-gen flagship Snapdragon chipset or the in-house Exynos chipset. It might cost anywhere around $1,500 (approx Rs 1,04,000) and we don’t think it will be the perfect device to use as a daily driver.
